A sound bath is an immersive listening experience using instruments such as crystal and metal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and other resonant sounds. Participants typically rest comfortably in a chair or on a mat while the practitioner creates a changing sound environment of tones, textures, rhythm, resonance, and silence.
Unlike a concert, the focus isn’t on following melodies or watching a performance. Instead, you’re invited simply to listen and notice what you experience.
Each session unfolds as a gently structured arc of sound, beginning with quieter, grounding sounds, moving through richer layers, and gradually returning to stillness.
There’s nothing you need to achieve during a sound bath. Get comfortable, listen, and let the experience unfold in whatever way it does for you.
No experience is required!
You don't need to know how to meditate, do yoga, recite the chakras in order, or know anything about frequencies. If you're coming to our studio, you don't even need to get on the floor. The zero-gravity chairs are comfortable and supportive for nearly all body types up to 500 lbs.
Simply come as you are in comfortable clothing and settle in.
Most people close their eyes and relax while listening to the sound. There’s nothing you need to do during the session. You may feel deeply relaxed, drift in and out of sleep, or simply enjoy a quiet hour away from the pace of the day.
If anything feels uncomfortable, you're always welcome to adjust your position or step outside for a few minutes.
Many participants are attending a sound bath for the first time, so you will be in very good company.
Wear comfortable clothing. Zero-gravity chairs, and yoga mats are available, as well as throw blankets for comfort. Feel free to bring a pillow or any other items such as an eye mask to help you feel comfortable in the chair on the mat. You’re also welcome to bring a journal if you want to reflect after the session.
Sound sessions are generally gentle, but individual responses to sound and vibration vary. People with tinnitus, hyperacusis or other sound sensitivities may need greater control over volume, distance, or duration. If you have a medical condition or implanted device and have been advised to limit exposure to sound or vibration, check with your healthcare provider or device manufacturer before participating. ASHA likewise recognizes that sound tolerance varies substantially for people with conditions such as hyperacusis.
Please also let us know if you are, or could be, pregnant so we can talk through positioning, instrument proximity, and anything else that may affect your comfort.
If you’re unsure whether a session is appropriate for you, reach out before attending. We’re happy to talk through what the session involves so you can make an informed choice.
Sound sessions include a range of instruments, textures, and volumes. If anything feels too loud, intense, or stimulating, you do not need to wait for your body to adjust.
You are always welcome to change position, move farther from an instrument, cover your ears, use hearing protection when appropriate, or step outside for a few minutes. You may also end the session at any time.
Your comfort takes priority over the sound bath. There is no benefit you need to endure discomfort to receive. If you have any concerns, please let us know.
There is no single way you are expected to feel after a sound session.
Many people describe feeling calmer, lighter, rested, grounded, or mentally clearer. Others feel energized, sleepy, emotional, reflective, or simply ready to get on with their day. Some people notice very little change at all.
Occasionally, someone may experience temporary discomfort such as a headache, lightheadedness, fatigue, or increased sensitivity to sound. If that happens, take care of yourself in whatever way feels appropriate and seek medical guidance if a symptom is concerning, severe, or persists.
You may want to give yourself a little time after the session before rushing into the next thing, but no particular response means the session “worked” or didn’t work. Sound practice is generally gentle and well-tolerated.
Not at all.
Sound practice doesn’t require a particular belief system. You may be interested in acoustics and neuroscience, connect with the ritual or symbolic aspects of the experience, come simply because you want an hour to rest, or bring none of those perspectives with you.
You don’t need to adopt an explanation for what you experience. You are welcome to notice what happens and decide for yourself what, if anything, it means to you.
That’s perfectly fine and, in fact, very common.
You don’t need to stay awake or maintain a particular state of attention during a sound bath. Some people drift in and out of sleep; others remain awake throughout. Either is completely okay.
If you fall asleep, there’s nothing you need to make up or recover. You experienced the session the way your body happened to experience it that day.
For enthusiastic snorers in a group session, you may be gently roused or invited to change position so everyone can continue enjoying the soundscape.
Please be prepared to arrive 10-15 minutes early so you have time to settle in and get comfortable. Sessions begin promptly to maintain a calm and grounded environment for all participants.
Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session.
